| 1 | Overall ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Description |
| Laidback, eastern-flavoured song built around a highly repeating synth chord progression. There are a number of flaws in this piece that prevents a higher score, though - each addressed below. | ||
| 2 | Creativity ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Description |
| This is the fourth track of this artist's that shows up in my review queue, and it's quickly apparent that it suffers from some of the same problems as the other three I've listened to so far; there's not nearly enough variation throughout. Using the same four chord sequence does get old rather quickly, but I guess I've made that point clear enough in my other reviews. ;) | ||
| 3 | Arrangement ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Description |
| There is no real climax or changes in intensity to the song, except from some attempts to liven the drums up by adding more cymbals. There is a middle section here, but it's basically just the same as the rest of the song, just without drums. The song would have benefitted with a lot more work on dynamics. Also, the melody line is not very memorable; a lead line usually becomes more interesting if it doesn't play at as regular intervals as is done here - there is just no breathing space in between. | ||
| 4 | Sound Quality ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Description |
| The sound is lacking in depth throughout - there is no real bass part in the entirety of the song, for instance. Also, a lot of the samples have a very "tracked" feel to them, and sound quite thin and muffled. There are nice sounds here also, though; I kind of like some of the oriental instruments here, and I keep noticing a submachine sonar sample popping up here and there that makes for a surprisingly refreshing piece of percussion - although that too could probably have been switched with one of higher quality. | ||
| 5 | Does it work as a piece of music ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Description |
| It actually manages to capture a deal of that eastern feeling to it, which is a plus in my book. I can tell that there is potential here, and I'm looking forward to hearing if the composer can improve on what he has done here, in future releases. | ||
